CALM: June-2021 Calendar

Greetings all!

Here is the June-2021 calendar from CALM: so many wonderful suggestions for mindfulness and self-care. Take a moment for yourself and remember to breathe!

My favorite ideas were from June 5, 17, and 25 – something we can incorporate into each and every day!

June 1 - Be aware of the armor you wear to protect yourself. Explore laying down the armor that you no longer need.

June 2- Your body is your home. Honor it. Put a hand over your heart and silently say I am as you inhale and home as your exhale.

June 3 - Be vulnerable with someone you trust.

June 4 - What parts of yourself do you hide from the world? Those parts of you need your love, acceptance, and compassion today.

June 5 - Schedule at least 15 minutes of pure enjoyment into your busy day.

June 6 - Listen to the mind and heart equally when you're making decisions today.

June 7 - Try a meditation in the Relationship with Self Series.

June 8 - Ride the waves of change rather than resisting uncertainty. Trust in your ability to weather any storm.

June 9 - Which quality about yourself do you wish to strengthen today?

June 10 - Set a timer for 5 minutes and journal. Start with the prompt: "When I listen carefully, I hear my heart say...”

June 11 - Connect with your inner artist. Dance, write, draw, paint. Whatever it is, allow yourself to create unselfconsciously.

June 12 - Use the exhale to help you release any self-judgement or criticism that is holding you back.

June 13 - Make a list of your qualities and success, even if you find it difficult.

June 14 - Lean into self-trust. Give yourself the advice you need to hear today. You've got your own back!

June 15 - Look up at the sky tonight and notice how it feels knowing that everyone's nights are lit by the same moon.

June 16 - What gift are you being offered today? Take a moment to savor it.

June 17 – “Be yourself. Everyone else is taken”. Notice where you compare yourself to others and try to embrace your uniqueness.

June 18 - Explore where you put pressure on yourself to be a certain way. How can you meet yourself with more compassion?

June 19 - Give yourself a hug!

June 20 - Be proud of yourself. What can you celebrate about yourself today?

June 21 - Stand for what you believe in. Make a list of your values and reflect on how you uphold them each day.

June 22 - Be completely present as you brush your teeth. Relish the sensations, sounds, and taste.

June 23 - Explore Calm Music and find a track that feels like an expression of your current state.

June 24 - Write a letter to your younger self. Help the little you understand why they should believe in themselves.

June 25 - Rather than stressing out about things you can’t rush or change, use that time to enjoy your life.

June 26 - Finish the sentence: Something I am learning to love about myself is _______.

June 27 - Complete the Daily Reflection prompt in the app to gain deeper understanding about yourself.

June 28 - Practice loving-kindness toward yourself today. May I be happy. May I be well. May I be safe. May I be at peace.

June 29 - Be a rainbow in someone else's sky. Help a loved one see themselves through your eyes by explaining how they shine.

June 30 - Celebrate every step you take today (literally or figuratively).

“It Doesn’t Have To Be The Blue Iris…”

Greetings all!

A friend emailed me this lovely poem yesterday, and it really spoke to me so I wanted to share it with you.

Meditation, prayer, sending good thoughts into the universe for yourself, your loved ones, or strangers, or just focusing on your breath… It doesn’t have to be a huge elaborate production!

 Praying

by Mary Oliver

It doesn’t have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch

a few words together and don’t try
to make them elaborate, this isn’t
a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.

Have a great week! Drop me a line!

The Big Five Personality Test [OCEAN]

Greetings all!

Have you taken the OCEAN test? No, I do not mean to see if you have any mermaid/merman traits!! Although wouldn’t it be fun?

TAKE THE TEST HERE (no need to create an account): https://www.truity.com/test/big-five-personality-test

This interesting personality test scores you for Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism – hence, OCEAN!

  • Openness describes a person’s tendency to think in abstract, complex ways.
  • Conscientiousness describes a person’s ability to exercise self-discipline and control in order to pursue their goals.
  • Extraversion describes a person’s inclination to seek stimulation from the outside world.
  • Agreeableness describes a person’s tendency to put others’ needs ahead of their own, and to cooperate rather than compete with others.
  • Neuroticism describes a person’s tendency to experience negative emotions, including fear, sadness, anxiety, guilt, and shame.

You will rate some statements and descriptions (accurate, inaccurate, and neutral) - and be honest to rate as you are and not as you want to be or think you should be! Some example are below:

  • I am always prepared.
  • I believe in the importance of art.
  • I am interested in the meaning of things.
  • I accept people the way they are.
  • I have a vivid imagination.
  • I feel comfortable with myself.
  • Soft-Hearted
  • Tense
  • Forgetful
  • Reserved

Once done, you get a report which I found interesting and thought-provoking.

7 Money Personality Types

Greetings all!

I recently came across an interesting article about money personality types. Japanese author Ken Honda has been researching money and happiness for over 10 years and thinks there are seven money personality types. Each type has its own emotional response to money, e.g., how you spend when you are worried, financially distressed, or bored, or seeking the approval and admirations of others, etc.

7 Money Personality Types Ken Honda, author of “Happy Money”

Ken does say that most of us fall into a combination of several types, and I agree. What I liked about this article is that it breaks down the signs of each personality type, identifies the pitfalls, and provides money advice. And if you flip the pitfalls, they become very sound money advice for majority of us, regardless of the type! Here are some examples:

  • Find a balance between spending and saving; do not skip on hobbies or activities that spark joy (The Compulsive Saver)
  • Create a budget; learn to spend less than you earn (The Compulsive Spender)
  • Do not neglect important relationships over growing your wealth; help others (The Compulsive Moneymaker)
  • Be responsible with your finances (The Indifferent-to-Money)
  • Don’t lose sight of your financial goals (The Saver-Splurger)
  • Set aside monthly savings; be strict with financial risks you take (The Gambler)
  • Work on understanding your financial worries; seek positivity around money conversations (The Worrier)
