Be a Curator of Your Life

T.I.M.E.

Greetings all!

How are your mornings? Are they relaxed or frantic? Do you dread your day with its to-do list or do you wake up knowing you have everything well in hand?

Of course, one can prepare a to-do list the evening before. But what about other ways to make mornings feel more mindful and less rushed?

I recently did a meditation with Jay Shetty on CALM - and he introduced the T.I.M.E. routine that does just that. Incorporating a routine – any routine, even a short one! – makes you feel in control, and it doesn’t take a lot of time to add T.I.M.E. to your day!

So what is T.I.M.E?

Thankfulness – Recognize your own gifts, as well as be thankful for and to the others.  Or you can just say “Thank you for a great day ahead!”

Insight – Find something that inspires you and makes you grow (e.g., a class, a book, or a podcast).

Meditation – Breathe and just be, even if it is just for several deep breathes!

Exercise – Move. I am not a morning person so I cannot imagine getting up and immediately going for a run but I CAN do a couple of easy stretches.

Don’t you love a good acronym? What did you think? Drop me a line!

Small Kindnesses

Greetings all!

Someone recently commented on my cute pink hat, and this unexpected compliment brightened my day and made me smile. A small thing but small things tend to have a snowball effect. I then went on with my day, with my next stop being a grocery store. While I had quite a few things in my cart, a person behind me only had a bottle of water and a banana. “You go ahead” – I said, and got a smile in return. Have you noticed that a smile usually creates a smile in return? It takes so little to be kind.

Small Kindnesses
by Danusha Laméris

“I’ve been thinking about the way, when you walk
down a crowded aisle, people pull in their legs
to let you by. Or how strangers still say “bless you”
when someone sneezes, a leftover
from the Bubonic plague. “Don’t die,” we are saying.
And sometimes, when you spill lemons
from your grocery bag, someone else will help you
pick them up. Mostly, we don’t want to harm each other.
We want to be handed our cup of coffee hot,
and to say thank you to the person handing it. To smile
at them and for them to smile back. For the waitress
to call us honey when she sets down the bowl of clam chowder,
and for the driver in the red pick-up truck to let us pass.
We have so little of each other, now. So far
from tribe and fire. Only these brief moments of exchange.
What if they are the true dwelling of the holy, these
fleeting temples we make together when we say, “Here,
have my seat,” “Go ahead — you first,” “I like your hat.”

What was your favorite passage? Mine is this:

“We have so little of each other, now…
Only these brief moments of exchange…
What if they are the true dwelling of the holy…”

What small kindness can you perform today? Drop me a line!

On Top of the Word

Warning: Do NOT open if afraid of heights!

Greetings all!

What do you think about advertisements? A necessary evil? A useful tool to discover new products and services? Ads seem to be everywhere, bombarding us with images of things we did not know we needed but now want.

But sometimes, an ad comes along that just makes you say “WOW!” – and you might never even use what is being advertised in your life.

Well, Emirates Airline did create a couple of such ads, one of which boasts over 12.5 million (yes, million!) views. The first one, expectedly, starts with a flight attendant urging us to "fly Emirates". Then the camera zooms out...

There is a skyscraper - and a human on top!! The skyscraper is Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world with a total height of over 828 m (2,722 ft, or just over half a mile) and more than 160 stories.

This brave person on top is Nicole Smith-Ludvik, a professional skydiver, among other things. Nicole believes that “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.” I think she definitely lives this motto!

Then Emirates did it again and showed the behind-the-scenes moments!

I thought it was one of the best ads I have ever seen! Truly an amazing crew that made it happen!

Hippo Fiona is a Big Sister!

Greetings all!

Do you remember Fiona, the world’s darling baby hippo that has captured our hearts? Read my post about her HERE. Fiona just became a big sister to a boy hippo, and the Cincinnati Zoo now has four hippos – Fiona, Bibi and Tucker, and the baby hippo! Isn’t he adorable? And his ear wiggle is so cute!

I stared at his pictures for a while, but it is not easy to name a hippo. The Zoo actually asked the public for help and received more than 90,000 suggestions in just a few days. The 2 top names were Fritz and Ferguson - which name do you like better? I held my post publication until baby hippo was named - scroll down for the name reveal!

Here are Bibi and Tucker, the proud parents!

Bibi

Tucker

Fiona's father Henry sadly passed away in 2017 but he did have several months with Bibi and Fiona.

While we are waiting for the family reunion - I am so excited for Fiona to meet her baby brother! - and additional coverage of the baby hippo, you can watch more videos about Fiona here: https://cincinnatizoo.org/the-fiona-show/
